Hey, just a little reminder to always back up your files. I didn't and was copying over some files from one hard drive to my big mama hard drive and something went crazy and it windows wouldn't let me open up any directory on that drive. So, I restarted windows because usually that will fix problems like that. Scan disk started automoatically and began deleting "orphan files" from that disk. I don't know how high the number got, I left when it was at 1000. I returned to my computer just as my computer was finishing booting. I went to open the hard drive to see if it was working. Well, it would let me open every directory, but the only directory there was My Documents (which i've used Tweak UI to set that as my location for my documents so I don't delete them when I restore my hard drive using Norton Ghost). So, I tried some of my recovery software. I chose for it to show all recoverable files on that hard drive, because as you know, many times when a file is deleted, it is really there at first, you're OS just doesn't show reference to it. So, it there until that space on your hard drive is overwritten with something else. So, first off, until I get a professional to look at it, I'm not writing anything to the drive to make sure I don't overwrite anything that may be there, but my recovery software shows zero recoverable files. So, what was so important about that hard drive. EVERY digital photo I had ever taken. The only ones backed up date back to 2000. So, I've lost every photo from 2001-Nov 2004. Every archived website, which is real bad because of the ones that I was recently working on that I still needed the photoshop file for making changes to it. Installations for an un-numbered amount of software. Video work from every summer. I've got the videos from 2004 on DVD, but that's all I've got from that. All of the photoshop work I've done just playing around along with Illustrator files. Odds and ends and scans of old photos dating back to the 20s that I don't own the original for. Backed up emails!! So much information just gone right now. Hopefully, a professional will be able to fix it, but I'm not that confident. Anyway, always backup your information, always.
